Drought conditions continue to deepen across parts of the state amid mild fall weather.

The latest drought map shows varying levels of dry conditions across the state, with a patch of extreme drought forming around Colquitt County in south Georgia.

On Sunday, a Nor’easter off the Carolina coast brought rain to southeast Georgia and the Lowcountry, but most of the state stayed dry.

The dry conditions extend to metro Atlanta, where the moisture level for the year is running about 5 inches below normal.

Georgia moved up a spot to No. 8 in the AP college football rankings on Sunday, while referee calls during Saturday’s win over Auburn continued to make headlines.

The Bulldogs’ focus now turns to hosting No. 5 Ole Miss on Saturday, a game that will feature a visit by ESPN’s College GameDay pregame festivities.

In Saturday’s game, Georgia clawed back from a 10-point deficit to beat Auburn 20–10, marking their ninth straight win over the Tigers.

Auburn fans and head coach Hugh Freeze fumed over referee calls on a disputed goal-line fumble and another involving a waved-off Georgia timeout.

Unbeaten Georgia Tech moved up to No. 12 in the AP college football rankings released Sunday, the team’s highest regular-season ranking since 2011.

On Saturday, the Yellow Jackets jumped out to an 18-0 lead and never looked back in a 35-20 home win over Virginia Tech.

The team improved to 6-0 for the first time since 2011 and became bowl eligible.

Georgia Tech heads to Duke next weekend for another key ACC test.
