Chase Elliott snapped a 44-race winless streak with a thrilling last-lap pass on Brad Keselowski to win Saturday night’s Quaker State 400 at EchoPark Speedway in Hampton.

The Dawsonville native grabbed his 20th career Cup Series victory and secured a spot in the playoffs, delighting the crowd in NASCAR’s first In-Season Tournament event.

Keselowski finished second, Alex Bowman third, and Tyler Reddick fourth, in a race marred by two wrecks that knocked out top seeds Denny Hamlin and Chase Briscoe.

Severe storms swept through Georgia this weekend, downing trees, flooding roads, and derailing a Norfolk Southern freight train in Peach County early Saturday.

The derailment, caused by flash-flood-weakened tracks, involved 23 cars. No injuries or hazardous material leaks were reported.

In metro Atlanta, neighborhoods reported wind damage and flash flooding.

This week, Georgia faces more heat and possible thunderstorms, with July 4th festivities at risk of disruption.

Article Icon 1 Mourners Praise Smith

Adriana Smith, a 31-year-old nurse from Georgia who was kept on life support until the birth of her son, was laid to rest Saturday in Lithonia.

Smith was declared brain-dead after a medical emergency in February, but remained on life support until her son, Chance, was delivered prematurely on June 13.

Her family has launched an online fundraiser to help care for both Chance and Smith’s older son, 7-year-old Chase.

Among those who paid tribute was Smith’s sister, Naya. “I’m thankful for everything that she’s taught me—her love, her kindness, her wisdom. Family meant everything to her. So I hope that I can follow in her footsteps,” she said.
