Rains Trigger Localized Flooding

Stalled storms dumped several inches of rain in parts of Georgia over the weekend, with more rain expected and flood risks growing.

Floyd, Whitfield, and Chattooga counties were among the areas hit hardest over the weekend, with road closures, downed trees, and reports of water in homes.

A flood watch remains in effect in many parts of the state through tonight, with more storms expected and saturated ground heightening the risk of fallen trees and local flooding.

  Father, Daughter Beaten at Campground

A father and daughter from Waco were hospitalized after an allegedly random attack by four people at Low Gap Campground in White County on Saturday.

Four suspects were arrested and charged with aggravated assault and battery. An investigation continues into what led to the attack.

Bruce Waldon, 58, suffered a severe brain bleed and deep neck cuts from being struck with a beer bottle.

His daughter, Gracee, was also injured. During the attack, she stabbed one of the assailants.

‘It’s a Spider-Eat-Spider World’

New research from the University of Georgia revealed that invasive Joro spiders may feed on one another.

The findings in the report, It’s a Spider-Eat-Spider World, suggest the spiders may self-regulate their booming population.

In tests, female Joros, native to East Asia and now invasive across the Southeast, were observed fighting and sometimes killing each other, including outside of mating scenarios.
