Federal agents have detained thousands of illegal immigrants in Georgia since January.

U.S. Department of Homeland Security officials say agents are targeting gangs, conducting workplace visits, responding to public tips, and making neighborhood patrols.

Earlier this month, agents detained a dozen suspected illegal immigrants at Luxx Nail Lounge in Marietta.

“Hiring illegal aliens is a federal crime that undermines fair labor, exploits the vulnerable, and threatens public safety. Employers will be held accountable,” the Homeland Security Investigations office in Atlanta posted afterward.

A Fulton County judge ruled Georgia must honor a pandemic-era deal made by the state Attorney General’s office to halt death row executions until COVID-19 vaccines are available to newborn babies.

The state attorney general’s office, which plans to appeal the judge’s ruling, argued the agreement’s “fundamental purpose” of protecting public safety during the pandemic was achieved.

The judge cited the agreement’s pause on executions until the vaccines are available to “all members of the public,” even though the vaccine isn’t yet available for infants under 6 months old.

Mason Howell, a 17-year-old high school junior from Thomasville, qualified for the 2025 U.S. Open after shooting 18-under at a qualifier event Monday at Piedmont Driving Club in Atlanta.

The Brookwood School standout went bogey-free and tied for first in a tournament field that included two-time PGA major champion Zach Johnson and other PGA Tour veterans.

Howell ranks No. 8 in the American Junior Golf Association Rankings. He’ll tee off next week at the U.S. Open at Oakmont Country Club in Oakmont, Pennsylvania, playing in his first major before starting his senior year.
