Forsyth Backs $3B NHL Arena Project

Forsyth County commissioners approved final agreements for The Gathering at South Forsyth, a proposed $3 billion development anchored by an NHL-ready arena.

Developers say the project hinges on the community securing a National Hockey League team. 

The 100-acre project would also include retail stores, housing, and entertainment venues.

The arena and other projects would be funded through tax revenue from the site, not directly from county government.

  Protests Planned for Saturday

Demonstrations are planned in dozens of Georgia cities for Saturday, part of a national campaign protesting President Trump and coinciding with the U.S. Army’s 250th birthday parade in Washington, D.C.

Organizers said the No Kings rallies will be peaceful.

State Attorney General Chris Carr warned demonstrators that they could face domestic terrorism charges if violence occurs.

Gov. Brian Kemp said state and local law enforcement agencies are ready to “take whatever appropriate action is needed.”

  Lawsuit Filed over Deadly Dock Collapse

The families of the seven people killed in the Sapelo Island dock collapse in October sued four companies involved in designing and building the failed gangway.

Three of the companies declined to comment. A fourth could not be immediately reached for a response.

The 80-foot walkway gave way during a crowded Gullah-Geechee Cultural Day event. The suit alleges poor design and weak construction.
