Article Icon 1Vietnam Memorial Designs Unveiled

Warner Robins leaders presented preliminary designs for the city’s long-awaited Vietnam Veterans Memorial.

The memorial will be built on a five-acre site donated by Vietnam veteran Michael Driggers, and will honor the 1,584 Georgians who did not return home from the Vietnam War.

The plans also include tributes recognizing the Medal of Honor, those missing in action, and Agent Orange victims.

Local veterans began pushing for a memorial more than a decade ago, but the project stalled after earlier site plans fell through.

Georgia’s flu season began earlier than usual, with state health officials tracking rising activity starting last month.

Flu typically peaks between December and February. The CDC recommends an annual shot for everyone 6 months and older, with a higher-dose option for people 65 and older.

Cherokee County hosted a drive-thru flu shot clinic for adults Tuesday at its Woodstock Health Center.

Last winter brought Georgia’s deadliest flu season in at least five years, driven partly by a strain of influenza A known as subclade K that the vaccine was not designed to target.
