Georgia Marks 9/11 Anniversary

Georgians will join the rest of the nation today in marking 25 years since the September 11 attacks, including a Fort Stewart soldier who recently opened a long-stored memory bag containing fragments of the Twin Towers.

Ceremonies across the state include memorial stair climbs, campus discussions, and moments of silence at 8:46 a.m. today, when the first plane struck the World Trade Center.

At Georgia Tech, hundreds of small flags near Tech Green form a memorial to the victims, alongside a tribute to 1st Lt. Tyler Brown, a former Tech student killed in action in Iraq.

Elsewhere, the new head of the FBI’s regional office in Atlanta named cyberattacks by rogue states among the greatest threats facing the U.S. in the aftermath of the Sept. 11 attacks.

  Toyota Opens Parts Plant

Toyota Industries celebrated the grand opening and start of production at a new electric systems plant in Pendergrass, with Gov. Brian Kemp attending last week’s event.

The $69 million TIESNA Georgia plant will eventually employ 250 people making DC-to-DC converters, which step down high-voltage battery power for electric vehicle lights and devices.

Toyota Industries Electric Systems North America broke ground on the plant in 2023, joining a Toyota supplier cluster that dates to 2004, when the first affiliated plant opened in Jackson County.

Toyota companies in Jackson County now support hundreds of jobs and anchor one of the state’s largest Japanese automotive manufacturing clusters.

Richest Atlanta Area ZIP Codes Listed

Buckhead’s reputation for wealth is backed by a new ranking of Atlanta’s richest ZIP codes, with Fulton County claiming four of the top five spots.

ZIP code 30326, covering North Buckhead and Lenox, ranked first with per capita income topping $118,000. The Virginia-Highland/Druid Hills area ranked second.

The rankings, compiled from U.S. Census data covering 2019 through 2024, weighed per capita income, population density, and poverty rates.

A separate household income study ranked Atlanta, Alpharetta, and Roswell among the state’s 50 wealthiest ZIP codes and also identified Georgia’s poorest areas.
