Planning Advances on Psych Hospital  

Georgia is preparing to build its first new state psychiatric hospital in more than 60 years, a $409 million, 300-bed forensic facility planned near Georgia Regional Hospital in south DeKalb County.

Officials hope to speed a construction timeline that typically runs 36 months. The state recently hired an architectural firm to assist with the project.

More than 700 Georgians in the criminal justice system are waiting for a state psychiatric bed, the result of a years-long backlog that leaves many detained for months and taxes jail capacity.

The project’s approval by the state legislature came soon after a federal court lifted Georgia’s 16-year ban on constructing such facilities. 

  Trump to Pitch ‘Trump Accounts’

President Trump will spotlight Trump Accounts and appear with U.S. Senate candidate Mike Collins and other Republicans when he visits Wheeler High School in Marietta on Wednesday.

The new federal savings program for American children provides tax-advantaged accounts available to children under 18, with a $1,000 Treasury contribution for children born between 2025 and 2028.

The 2 p.m. event will also highlight the Working Families Tax Cuts passed a year ago by Congress, which increased average federal tax refunds.

Cobb County School District officials said they are honored by the visit and look forward to showcasing the school’s students and teachers.

Cases of Georgia law enforcement officers misusing license plate cameras are stacking up as Flock Safety’s new artificial intelligence audit tool flags suspicious searches for supervisors to review.

At least 20 officers statewide have been fired, arrested, or removed from duty in the past year over allegedly using the database to track romantic partners and acquaintances.

Three Richmond County deputies became the latest, fired and arrested Monday for alleged misuse of the readers and violating their oaths of office.

Flock argues such firings show the effectiveness of its safeguards, including a new “audit assistance” tool designed to help agencies identify potentially suspicious searches.
