Article Icon 1Revolutionary War Cannons Debut in Savannah

Seventeen Revolutionary War-era cannons recovered from the Savannah River in 2021 and 2022 are now on display at the Savannah History Museum as part of a new exhibit.

After their recovery, the cannons underwent years of restoration work at Texas A&M University before being returned to Georgia.

The Loyalists & Liberty: Savannah in the American Revolution exhibit covers about 3,000 square feet and showcases the city’s significance in the American Revolution.

The display is open daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tickets can be purchased here.

Article Icon 1 Independence Day Boating Safety in Focus

As Georgians head to the waters for Fourth of July weekend, officials are urging boaters to prioritize safety in what is expected to be one of the busiest periods of the year.

Officials are reminding boaters to ensure they have the required safety equipment on board, including enough life jackets for every passenger, a throwable flotation device, and a fire extinguisher.

Boating under the influence will also be a key focus as authorities will be stepping up law enforcement on state waters this weekend as part of the nationwide Operation Dry Water crackdown.

Last year, boating incidents resulted in six deaths and 18 injuries over the holiday weekend.
