Atlanta Top City for Sports Business

Sports Business Journal named Atlanta the nation’s No. 1 city for sports business for 2026.

The report cited committed team owners such as Arthur Blank and the late Ted Turner, hometown corporate brands, and a collaborative culture.

Blank’s portfolio includes ownership of the Atlanta Falcons, Atlanta United FC, and Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Most recently, he helped fund the new $250 million Arthur M. Blank U.S. Soccer National Training Center.

The report also praised the public-private development of the Atlanta Braves’ Truist Park and The Battery Atlanta, which drew recognition as a model for sports-led real estate development. The Braves are celebrating their 60th anniversary in the city this season.

“Every successful sports business town has good corporate support,” Atlanta Sports Council President Dan Corso said. “What we have are companies who are part of an equation, so that it’s not just their brand, or the teams that benefit, but it’s the city itself that is elevated.”

Polls Open Today

Voters head to the polls today for the state’s primary election, the first test in one of the nation’s most closely watched election battlegrounds.

Candidates across the state spent Monday making their final appeals to voters, who will cast ballots in primary races for governor, U.S. Senate, and more.

Any runoff elections needed after today’s primary voting will take place on June 16.

Wounded Officer Returns With Added Purpose

A McCaysville police captain who was shot in the head has returned to patrol and is launching a nonprofit to help other officers injured in the line of duty.

Capt. Brantley Worley was critically injured in September while responding to a call. A bullet struck him in the face and exited near his nose, leaving him hospitalized.

Despite the trauma, he never considered walking away. “I’ve been doing this for 15 years, and I wasn’t about to let a 30-second encounter take my career away from me,” Worley said.

Worley is also launching the Worley Strong Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to supporting law enforcement officers recovering from line-of-duty injuries.
