Judge Extends Execution Delay

A Fulton County judge extended the delay in the scheduled execution of Stacey Humphreys, citing unresolved questions about potential conflicts of interest on the state parole board.

The judge ordered attorneys on both sides to submit additional arguments by Jan. 19.

Humphreys’ lawyers seek the recusal of two parole board members, saying their past work in the criminal justice system linked them to Humphreys’ trial.

Prosecutors maintain that the five-person parole board can proceed even if two members were to recuse themselves.

Humphreys, 52, was convicted in the 2003 murders of two women in Cobb County. His execution by lethal injection had been scheduled on Dec. 17.

  Falcons Deliver in Prime Time

The Atlanta Falcons gave football fans a thrilling final Monday Night Football game of the season with their 27-24 home win over the playoff-bound Los Angeles Rams.

The victory extended the Falcons’ winning streak to three games, with strong performances on offense and defense, despite being out of playoff contention.

“Guys came to play tonight,” Falcons head coach Raheem Morris said afterward.

Highlights included a strong performance from running back Bijan Robinson, who racked up a career-best 229 yards in rushing and receiving, including a 93-yard touchdown run.

Atlanta’s last game of the season is at home against rival New Orleans on Sunday.
