Warm-Up Begins

Temperatures warmed across the state on Tuesday, a day after snow flurries surprised parts of metro Atlanta and blanketed mountain areas.

The forecast calls for a warming trend through early next week.

Icy roads and cold morning temperatures led several school districts, including those in Fannin and Union counties, to adjust their schedules or shift to remote learning on Tuesday.

The Atlanta area dipped into the upper 20s overnight Monday, triggering freeze warnings and prompting the opening of warming centers.

Food Stamps Resume

Food stamp recipients in Georgia began receiving benefits again as Congress finalized the end to the partial government shutdown.

Those with past-due distribution dates were scheduled to receive at least partial funds on Monday, while others will follow the regular distribution schedule.

The agreement to end the partial federal government shutdown extends the food stamp program through September 2026.

Baldwin Wins Rookie of the Year

Atlanta Braves catcher Drake Baldwin was named the 2025 National League Rookie of the Year, receiving 21 of 30 first-place votes from the Baseball Writers’ Association of America.

Baldwin hit .274 with 19 home runs over 124 games, while sharing catching duties for most of the year.

He’s the 10th catcher since 1947 to earn Rookie of the Year honors and the Braves’ 10th player to win the award. His win earns the Braves a bonus draft pick in 2026.
