Holiday Crashes, DUI Arrests Climb

Georgia troopers were busy over the Labor Day weekend, arresting more than 340 motorists for DUI and responding to more than 190 crashes as of early Monday.

The car crashes resulted in at least five deaths and more than 90 injuries. More than 25 wrecks involved impaired drivers, and at least 10 involved commercial vehicles.

Law enforcement also issued more than 380 distracted driving citations and more than 570 seatbelt violations.

On the water, seven boating DUIs were reported as of Sunday, mostly on Lake Lanier. The holiday enforcement period ended Monday night.

Kickball Marathon Breaks World Record

A nonprofit in metro Atlanta broke the Guinness World Record for the longest kickball game, playing for 52 hours straight to raise awareness about human trafficking.

Men Opposing Sex Trafficking began the game Friday morning and wrapped up Sunday afternoon, topping the previous 51-hour record set in Ohio in 2011.

Forty players stayed on the field the entire time, with only brief breaks allowed.

It was the group’s third record-breaking event in a year, following marathon softball and basketball games.
