Cooler Days Ahead

After a steamy summer, cooler temperatures are forecast for Georgia through this week.

Some predict the lower temperatures could result in this month going down as the state’s fifth-coolest August since 1893.

A cold front sweeping through the Southeast is expected to drop daytime highs into the mid-70s by Friday, and some places could see overnight lows dip to the upper 40s tonight.

The National Weather Service calls the forecast a “taste of False Fall,” and says rain isn’t off the table, with scattered storms possible by Thursday, especially around Atlanta.

  Fair’s $10 Ticket Deal Ends Tonight

The 36-hour ticket deal for the upcoming Georgia National Fair ends at 9 p.m. today, with a general admission pass available for $10.

That’s a savings from the usual $14 for advance purchases and $15 at the gate. The prices do not include taxes and fees.

The fair runs Oct. 2 through Oct. 12 at the Georgia National Fairgrounds in Perry.

This year’s expo will feature rides, food, farm animals, and nine nights of live music, including shows by The Fray and Tracy Lawrence. Concerts are included with admission.

Kemp Outlines National Guard Plans

Gov. Brian Kemp’s office released details of the Georgia National Guard’s plan to aid immigration enforcement in the state.

A group of 75 soldiers and airmen will perform administrative and logistics duties, allowing more federal immigration agents to work in the field, the office said.

Kemp issued a statement referencing other Georgia National Guard efforts to assist with immigration enforcement, including helping with Texas’ border operations.

“Georgia has led on this front for years and will continue to do so through this latest measure while still meeting all responsibilities and duties the Guard has to the state,” Kemp said.
