Metro Atlanta’s population is estimated at around 5.3 million, reflecting a one-year increase of over 64,000 residents, with notable growth in Fulton, Gwinnett, Cherokee, and Forsyth counties.

Even though the region’s population continues to grow, that growth is slowing down. The area’s average annual population growth rate has continued to drop every decade since the 1980s.

By 2050, metro Atlanta’s population is projected to rise to nearly 8 million.

“Metro Atlanta’s continued growth is a testament to our diverse and dynamic economy and great quality of life,” Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens said.

Donna Nguyen, a 62-year-old woman from Union City, died on Thursday after being hospitalized with severe injuries for nearly two weeks following an attack by five off-leash dogs on Aug. 1.

Four of the dogs have been euthanized, with the fifth remaining in shelter custody.

The owner of the dogs, who has been cited for accusations of dog bites, dogs on the loose, and dogs unattended, denies that his dogs were involved.

The Fulton County Police Department is investigating the incident.
