Article Icon 1Georgia Schools Begin Safety Overhaul

Georgia students are returning to classrooms under a set of new safety measures mandated by House Bill 268, which was passed after the deadly 2024 shooting at Apalachee High School in Barrow County.

A prominent measure comes from Senate Bill 17, passed earlier this year, which requires every public and private school in Georgia to implement panic button systems.

Many schools will also be seeing upgraded security. Barrow County and Gwinnett County have each spent millions on improving security with new weapon detection systems.

Other measures include offering and improving mental health services. House Bill 268 establishes new, funded roles in schools called qualified student advocacy specialists, whose purpose is to identify students at risk and link them with appropriate mental health support.

MARTA will suspend Atlanta Streetcar service starting September 8 for approximately three to four months to complete infrastructure upgrades and allow Georgia Power to repair underground electrical lines safely.

The company announced that the streetcar will be replaced with shuttle vans along the same route until the suspension concludes.

Earlier this year, MARTA suspended the streetcar service for nearly a week so Georgia Power could make emergency repairs on Carnegie Way.

Article Icon 1Georgia Ranks High in Producing NFL Players

Georgia was ranked the fourth-highest state in the U.S. for producing NFL players, according to a study by Lineups. Atlanta took the No. 7 spot in the respective city list.

The rankings were based on the most common hometowns of NFL players currently in the league.

The state’s trend is not showing signs of slowing down as 22 players from Georgia were taken in the 2025 NFL Draft, the third-highest among all states, behind only Texas and Florida.

Some notable active NFL players from Georgia include Tyreek Hill, Nick Chubb, Deshaun Watson, and Jahmyr Gibbs.
