Article Icon 1Meteorite Frenzy Hits Georgia

After a fireball lit up skies over Georgia last Thursday, meteorite hunters from across the country descended on Henry County hoping to find fragments of the extraterrestrial visitor.

NASA confirmed the meteor exploded midair, with one piece reportedly smashing through a home’s roof, though no injuries were reported.

Hunters like retired astronomer Ed Albin and even a 9 year old have found fragments worth up to $100 per gram. For many, it’s less about profit and more about the thrill.

Forecasters are watching a patch of warm waters from the eastern Gulf to the southern Atlantic for potential tropical development just after Independence Day.

A weak system is forming near Florida and could grow into a tropical depression or storm by early next week, with Georgia and the Carolinas in the monitoring zone.

While the chance of a named storm remains low for now, soggy conditions and localized flooding are possible, especially in coastal and inland areas of South Georgia.

Article Icon 1Profar Returns to Slumping Braves Lineup

Jurickson Profar will return to the Atlanta Braves’ lineup tomorrow after serving an 80-game Performance Enhancing Drug suspension, aiming to revive an Atlanta offense that ranks near the bottom of MLB.

The 32-year-old switch hitter has hit well in Triple-A, but questions linger about whether it’ll translate to big-league pitching.

Manager Brian Snitker plans to slot Profar in the middle of the order as the Braves struggle to gain ground in the National League Wild Card race. Profar won’t be eligible for postseason play, but Atlanta hopes he can help them get there.
