One person died in Banks County after a tree fell on a car during severe thunderstorms Saturday night, Gov. Brian Kemp confirmed.

Nearly 20,000 customers across northeast Georgia remained without power on Sunday, with Hall, Habersham, and Lumpkin counties among the hardest hit areas.

More than 20 roads in Hall County were closed due to downed trees.

Forecasters warn of more severe storms through Tuesday, with damaging winds and hail possible.

College sports teams and their followers in Georgia and elsewhere reacted to a federal judge approving a landmark NCAA settlement that lets schools directly pay student-athletes.

Analysts and reporters who follow Georgia and Georgia Tech began assessing the impacts on individual schools and conferences.

The settlement also sets aside $2.7 billion to compensate college players nationally who were previously barred from revenue sharing.

As severe storm season resumes, a farmer in Coffee County talked about the farm’s recovery from Hurricane Helene, saying, “It’s been a rough ride.”

In the Valdosta area, a third-generation farmer said his operation is still recovering from recent years’ hurricanes, including Helene—”the roughest I had ever seen.”

The Farmers’ Almanac predicts a “brutally humid, wet” summer for the Southeast, while the National Weather Service predicts normal to above-normal rain, depending on the location.

More federal aid to farms is expected to start flowing by July 7, but growers say increased funding support in the next Farm Bill is also important for their survival.
