Article Icon 1Walmart Shooting Suspect Identified

Officials identified Dwayne Eduh as the Walmart employee accused of fatally shooting two coworkers and injuring another early Friday morning in Newton County.

Authorities say Eduh shot two coworkers at a Newton County Walmart, killing one inside the store and critically wounding another just outside of the store. Eduh then fatally shot a third in a home invasion, fled the state, and shot himself during a standoff with police in South Carolina.

Medics treated Eduh and transported him to a hospital, where he was listed in critical condition as of Friday afternoon.

The victims and shooter were described as acquaintances, though authorities have not identified a motive.

Article Icon 1 Emory Students Lose Visas

Emory University confirmed that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement revoked the student visas of one current student and three alumni this week.

The alumni, under Emory’s immigration sponsorship for post-graduate training, lost legal U.S. status after their visas were revoked, leaving them at risk of detention by immigration authorities.

Emory didn’t disclose reasons for the visa terminations, though Secretary of State Marco Rubio has linked similar actions nationwide to students’ involvement in last year’s anti-Israel campus protests, including at Emory.

Article Icon 1Tourism Surges During Masters

The Augusta Convention and Visitors Bureau has estimated that Masters Week will attract at least 250,000 people, generating over $36 million in revenue and nearly $110 million in total economic impact for the city.

The local hospitality industry sees a major boost during Masters Week, with full hotels and packed restaurants, as many businesses earn up to 10% of their annual revenue in just one week.

State economic officials leverage the Masters’ popularity by inviting global CEOs to meet with leaders and tour potential development sites across Georgia.

Areas near Augusta also benefit financially from Masters Week; Greenwood, South Carolina—about an hour away—has reported increased sales at local restaurants, shops, and hotels.
